Everything in life depends on relationships. Our relationships at home and at work determine our success. And, our relationship with ourselves determines our happiness.. our innerwealth.

For many years I searched for the keys to this inner relationship. I went from University to Ashram, learning theory, observing and experiencing and yet, I came away befuddled. What most people defined as a healthy relationship was to me, boring, predictable and mundane. I knew it went deeper, but there were no teachers. At least none who walked their talk.

In the end, I sat on a mountain top searching. There was little more information on the mountain than at the bottom: just colder and better view. I needed to go deeper.

And I did.

Ocean Soul video from National Geographic is more than just about whales .. it is about one man's experience with whales. Life's too short to live from our own experiences, why not learn from others as well?

When you get promoted to more responsibility, higher yield time expectations and increased demands how do you deal with it?

Some people work their tail off with the idea that they'll "get on top of things" if they just put their head down, bottom up, and go for it. This is a common mistake.

Some people worry more. By worrying about things, some people who get promoted think that they'll impress the universe and therefore be gifted with great answers and better results. Other people extend their work hours and do all three of the above. What do you do?

Traditional meditation is like taking a bath in the morning and hoping you don't stink by the end of the day.
  • I sat in meditation for many years. I don't now.
  • I used to sit in peace, tranquility and stillness then go out into the world, I don't now.
  • I used to think meditation was the perfect state of undisturbed peace within. I don't now.

How much would you pay to cure a terminal disease if you had one? All your money?

How much would you pay to make sure your children knew you loved them? Much or nothing?

How much would you pay to feel superior to your friends, siblings and family? A lot?

Equate the cost of change against the cost of not changing and you'll start to get a value. We often undervalue the amount we'd spend on change because we undervalue the cost of not changing. Take my personal situation for instance:

When I was going through my divorce I stood on principle saying, "this amount is the right amount of money to settle for" with my soon to be ex-wife. I didn't build into that equation any amount that valued the cost of not changing. I valued the separation and money split based on what I perceived as the principle of settlement, rather than the value of change. I underestimated the cost of not changing.

Similarly when I was the proud owner of my first Management Consulting firm we we busy helping others change but didn't value the cost of not changing ourselves. We overspecialised and after only 3 years ran out of technology.

The wealthiest and most inspired people I know, understand human nature. They are, far from being purists who insist on changing human nature, able to exploit it.

Nature and human nature are in an argument. Often referred to as the cosmic giggle, successful people in all walks of life understand the difference.

The more conscious a person becomes the more they understand this difference between human nature and nature. The more TV we absorb and the deeper we isolate ourselves in nature, the less we understand human nature.

Did you hear the song "what do I have to do to make you love me?"
I heard it. I heard it from the age of three. I heard it over and over and over. I actually sang it every morning, noon and night.
"what do I have to do to make you love me?"
I tried damn hard too.. I danced, I was nice, I went wild...I performed, shut up, dug holes, washed cars, bought clothes, made money, licked and kissed and rowed a boat... "what do I have to do to make you love me?" ... and as it turns out ... a lot.
My parents, school teachers, priests, self help gurus, yoga teachers and girlfriends listed the list... I jumped through hoops, did amazing things, and for a guy with dyslexia and the IQ of a peanut, achieved amazing things. Still it wasn't enough, I still sang that song, "what do I have to do to make you love me?" There was always another mountain, another judgement, another religions a beautiful woman or a client saying "jump through this ring of fire and I'll love you more" ... desperate to win, I did, I jumped. Again, and again and again...
