Day 1. Arrive
A Pilgrimage of the Heart. A journey within and without to the Nepal Himalayas
All who go to the Himalayas of Nepal enjoy it. As a guide I can show people mountains, but as a teacher my
purpose is to help people make that giant steps in wisdom as well. So, the journey is for everyone, but for those
looking to take the opportunity to learn and grow, it's even more exceptional.
Are you fit enough? The
planning for a trip in
Nepal takes a few months and during this time you get really inspired
by the opportunity. Of course, the fitter you are for walking hills,
the more you'll love the trip.
After your read this, close your eyes and try to imagine yourself as a
mountain. Your base deeply merged with the core of the earth, your snow
capped peak, reaching for God. Your soul, deeply woven into the fabric
of your great mass. Ancient, yet, forever changing. Become the
mountains, become one, and then loose yourself.
About the time of the year in Nepal
November and December are winter treks and quite cold but sensational vistas.
May June are monsoon treks and can get wet but it's festival time and warm.
June is Dumji time is one of the most beautiful seasons in Nepal. It is
a time of celebration and dance. You'll be welcomed and the festivities
are wonderful sacred and special. Our trek takes us to Gokyo lakes
before the festival so we can freely join the groups and parties.
The
mountains are sacred, huge eagles circle overhead, woolly mountain
goats watch us from far above, snow leapards remain hidden from in
their lair, giant yaks just turn and wonder at our pilgrimage and the
Spiritual Pitbull (alias Chris Walker) guides you to experience the
real divinity that exists within your heart and the mountains.
Sherpa people say Tashi Deli (hello), children play with dusty toys, monks chant and give their blessings, prayer flags wave to us. We are on our way in this vast panorama that stretches out before us, the foothills of the Himalayas, home of Mt Everest. The trail is tough physically but mostly mentally as Chris confronts the limitations that keep you from experiencing the stillness that is at the core of your being.
Our
aim is to not only reach the summit of Goyko Re and the Sacred Lakes of
the Himalayas but to also reach the summit of a consciousness that we
can take down with us and live with us for the rest of our lives. They
say you can take the person out of the Himalaya but you can't take the
Himalaya ( once you have been with Chris) out of the person.
The Package
Our porters carry our gear. Friendly people,
they seem to be able to carry more than their own weight without a
breath. Coffee and tea, a hearty breakfast and another altitude gain of
500 meters. We'll climb that ridge and get a few photo's before we
finish the day, down in another warm lodge.
On the way, we stay in lodges under the shadow of the Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamaserku peaks in our journey to (either Gokyo or Everest base camp and Kalapathar); selected among the world's top 20 classic Journeys of Lifetime by the Observer, UK. We enjoy good food and traditional Sherpa hospitality. With time for acclimatisation rest days on the way up we walk on relaxed pace below the incredible snow capped peaks, through the beautiful forest and Himalayan Sherpa settlements.
The path to Everest base camp we follow the Dudh Koshi valley to Namche, the Sherpa"capital" nestled in a horse shoe bowl, with it's colorful and bustling market with traders from local villages and as far away as Tibet. The alpine scenery becomes more rugged as we trek above the tree line to reach Dingboche for further acclimatising and exploration. Following the Khumbu glacier moraines we head to Gorak Shep via Lobuche. We trek the summit of Kalapathar (5445m), the best vantage point on earth for the stunning views of 360-degree Himalayas panorama including the world's highest peak Mount Everest in our adventure holiday Everest base camp trip.
